The Sylvia Sextet draws its inspiration not from Sylvia Plath’s poetry, but rather from her complex personality (at least as it seems to shine through in her writings) and her fierce creative drive. Composed based on her journals—in which all the voices of the great American poet constantly intersect and intertwine—the Sextet aims to reflect the passions that shaped the artist throughout her life.
In writing the piece, I attempted to bring to life the sensation of a whirlwind, of hopes, and of the horizons of expectation that I felt while reading her diary.
It is a subjective and personal perspective that chooses, beyond the tragedy, to focus on the artist’s radiant determination and her unstoppable desire to write.
